My friend Gary Dion is repairing his Omega Race board. He was telling me about the diagnostic LED flashes. I dug into the code to figure out what they mean.
Omega Race was a fun vector graphics game. Maybe I’ll come back and finish the dig one day. Gary pointed me to a site describing a bug in the game – a random line that appears. I would look for that. The game uses two AY38910 sound chips like the other sound boards I’ve spent so much time with. The sound board here is only 2K ROM. It would make a great addition to my collection of sound board digs.
The vector generator is evidently the same as the one other games like Atari Asteroids. As such I can run my vector-disassembler on it and look at the game objects.
Comment out the sound board to identify the sound effects.
Search the main code for “OUT ($14),A” and match those to their sound effects from the main board.
